UPDATED
Our visit to Middelburg was too brief. It was on the first of January – cold and windy, but sunny day. After we visited a couple of Forts and Vlissingen, on our way back to Bergen op Zoom, we decided to stop and see this town as well, as I have been told it’s a beautiful one.

Well, it is a beautiful one. The only issue was that we were there too late and it was already dusk. So, not only it was lockdown, but also dark, so we couldn’t see much.

Yet, from the little time there, I can tell it worth it second visit, so that article wold be updated at sometime in the near future. 😉

Located approximately 65 km west of Bergen op Zoom, Middelburg is the principal town and regional capital of Zeeland in the Netherlands.
And surely the second visit happened. Only 5 months latter, but who counts! 😁
The second visit in Middelburg
It was a sunny spring day in the beginning of May. As the day before I started towards the train station just to find out there are no trains all day due to some maintenance on the route, today I was even more determinate to go there.

I had a ready to follow route on Google maps from a friend, who knows the city very well. Although we allays have disagreements with that exact navigation, it behaved good enough.

Surely I haven’t followed it strictly, but it was a great advantage having it. It did lead me to spots I won’t go by myself. Very beautiful ones!

I was strolling through the city for hours. Smiling, enjoying the great weather (Egh, windy, of course!) and the beauty around me.

Was really tempted to sit for a coffee somewhere. Especially at the Zeeuws Museum, where the atmosphere was so peaceful and calming and the staff was so welcoming.

Yet I did resist. I didn’t want taking the risk to become lazy and head back to the station. I had way more to explore around! 😉

Middelburg Abbey (The Abbey of our Lady) is a former Premonstratensian abbey, which at one time it was the centre of a large monastic complex. Today parts of what survives are used for a museum and as offices.

And here is the gallery with the rest of the photos.
