How has everything started

How has everything started, when, why? I have been asked a lot. Well, I did tray to answer here. So lets see… Before everything started Once upon a time… I was a “normal” person. As normal, as I have ever been, anyway. I had a normal job and was normally miserable. (“about me” page) I knew I need a change, but didn’t dare to even think about it. I had the responsibility to raise my daughter, so…

My stay in the Netherlands

By the time I started this post my stay in the Netherlands has already been more than 6 months long and it was not clear yet when it’s going to end. That’s why the article’s original name was “The first 6 months” and it already has its first part. As often happens in my life journey, when the moment comes, I make the decisions quite fast. Just about a week latter I was certain. So, I just…

Middelburg

UPDATED Our visit to Middelburg was too brief. It was on the first of January – cold and windy, but sunny day. After we visited a couple of Forts and Vlissingen, on our way back to Bergen op Zoom, we decided to stop and see this town as well, as I have been told it’s a beautiful one. Well, it is a beautiful one. The only issue was that we were there too late and it was…

Rotterdam

Went to Rotterdam with a friend of mine in a sunny spring day – beautiful place with lots to be seen. I have already noticed that most of the buildings are new and impressive and was thinking to read something about the reason latter. Had no need. My amazing knowledgeable guide has enlightened me that it’s because of the World War II, when Rotterdam was literally flattened. So, nowadays I guess, you could walk all day long…

Alex & Yeen – the miracles on the way

Yeah, after the huge impact Alex has in my life journey, I think he deserves a special place. 😊 Do you remember the story? I met Alex in August for less than an hour at the breakfast table. It was at the guesthouse in Bosnia and Herzegovina where I had spend the night and he has just arrived. Afterwards he kindly took me a couple of kilometres ahead to the main road and went back to enjoy…

The Hague and around

Went to the Hague a couple of times. So far the weather have always been with me and every time I had an amazing visit there. And the sunrise by the pier is quite memorizable! 😊 Morning walk by the beach in The Hague is something one wouldn’t really expect in March, but who cares, right! Yet haven’t seen much of the city, mainly travelled in the area. Keep seeing windmills all over the Netherlands has stopped…

Keukenhof

Keukenhof (which in English means Kitchen garden), is known as the Garden of Europe. It takes place in the province of South Holland near Lisse and it’s one of the world’s largest flower gardens. According to the official website, Keukenhof Park covers an area of 32 hectares (79 acres). And approximately 7 million flower bulbs are planted in the gardens annually. Although Keukenhof is widely known for its tulips, it also features numerous other flowers. That includes…

The Netherlands – the beginning of my stay

There is also a second part of that article. And for more recent updates you can always visit my Facebook page. Arriving at the Netherlands It was on 22nd of September when Alex took me to the Netherlands. We arrived in Bergen op Zoom, Noord Brabant, late in the evening after all day driving (started in the morning at Klagenfurt, Austria). On the way we talked a lot (12 hours on the road are quite enough for…

Dordrecht

The day I went to Dordrecht turned out to be the perfect one for a walk – warm and sunny day in March. So, relatively early in the morning I took the train and left towards my destination. I had a meeting with my host for the night there in the afternoon, so I had hours to spend around the city centre or wherever my feet brings me. According to Wikipedia, Dordrecht is the oldest city in…

Goes

Went to Goes on a short Sunday trip. It was quiet and peaceful – like it was Sunday. 😁 Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I went there early before noon. Doubtfully anyone cares if it’s windy (of course it was!), when the sun is shining. It’s a small peaceful town with not much to see, yet beautiful and charming. Okay, there is a Foundation Steam Train Goes-Borsele, but it was temporary closed,…

Baarle-Nassau or Herog

Baarle-Nassau / Baarle-Hertog – the two names of one city divided by many pieces of two different countries. It was my first trip after I bought a travel card here. It’s on subscription and costs me 5.10 euro per month. So, I decided, I have to go monthly to at least one place, to make it worth it! 😁 I have seen lots of photos with those white border marking crosses and was quite curious to went…

Vlissingen

We went to Vlissingen on the first day of the year – very cold and windy, but sunny day. Still lockdown times, which added to the restrictions, made almost impossible to have something to eat or drink. First we get to Fort Ellewoutsdijk, which of course, was closed, so we couldn’t see much. Well, there on the shore, the wind was trying to blow us away, so we did’t hesitate for a long and kept moving ahead.…

Willemstad

When we were looking at the cities to visit nearby, we noticed the odd shape of Willemstad on the map, which immediately caught our attention. It turned out that Willemstad is one of many star-shaped towns around Europe and especially in the Netherlands. Here it is a bit of history: The starfort first appeared in Italy at the end of the 15th century. Medieval-era fortifications tended to be ring-shaped, which not only allowed attackers relative safety when…

Breda

UPDATED Breda – the first place I went to in the Netherlands. Yeah, not counting Bergen op Zoom, as I am based there. To Breda had to go to deal with the necessary registrations and papers to work legally. So, the first time I went was a “test drive“. 😆 No kidding! I catch the train and went there just to see how the system works and how exactly I can get to “Gemeente Breda“, as my…
