To travel and to be a tourist

Today a friend of mine wrote to me and made me think how my travel looks like from aside… Is the difference between to travel and to be a tourist is visible?

Right now I have stopped in the Netherlands, as was the initial plan. I have a great job and an amazing place to stay since the day I have arrived! I owe this not only to my stubbornness, but also to Alex who, since Austria, is helping me every possible way and makes me feel as a royal person! Well, at least I guess they feel that way. 😁
The words are just not enough..!

So, this morning a friend of mine wrote to me how exited he was from all I am doing.

You are living in a dream! I’m sure you just have no idea how many people want to do the same, but they don’t move their asses! Eli, you have to have video blog as well! You must have a video camera and a dron and make a YouTube canal and post all the time! You must rent a car or buy your own! It is so easy, everyone is doing it!”

And so on, and so on…

I love this guy – he is very good friend of mine! And I know he did say all that to help me on the way. From his words though, I understand two things. First – he hasn’t read a word of my blog. And second – people have just no idea what is it to be on the road. It is not a vacation, it is the real life!

We, and me in particular, have some guilt for the second topic, making it looks all sparkles and fun. It is fun, there are sparkles as well, but you need to pay for them one way or another! It is the life with all the problems and questions, with all the bad and good moments, the ups and downs, the tears and the smiles… The same life you are living at home! Just a bit more exiting and difficult

At some point of my, so far, short travel life I was really desperate and scared as hell! I needed a friend and I had no one to lean on. I knew very few would believe or understand and those who do, will feel bad because they can not do anything to help.

Today’s chat made me realise that I maybe can do something to change that. As a good friend of mine just said “Travelling is like a 24/7 job. Other jobs are only 8 hours a day…

Left poor Roberto waiting for me on the burning sun at noon... (Hmmm, doesn't sound that bad to name your backpack... 🤔 😆)
